Pre-lecture

A) This piece was written using a variation of the Fraktur script. Fraktur differs from other calligraphy scripts in that it requires constant pen manipulation; for example, the descenders of the letters "f" and "p" require the nib to be rotated from a 45 degree angle to 90 degrees in order to achieve the sharp point.

B) The Tugendhat House is a simple, understated and elegant piece of architecture. This house was far ahead of its time, being designed in only 1928 by Mies Van Der Rohe. Separate entrances were built for the family and the servants with the circulation of either never really crossing paths.

C) This photo was taken on my previous trip to Hong Kong. The day was spent wondering the streets of Hong Kong until my family and I reached the harbour where I took a picture of the sunset. At the time, I tried using the rule of thirds to compose my picture a little better.
